Abstract
Shoot growth, occurrence of mold and alternaria leaf spot on leaves and fruits, quality and the mineral contents in mature leaves as influenced by the different density of Aphis citricola were investigated in ¢¥Fuji¢¥ apples. Rate of shoot growth of 3-year-old seedlings in pots decreased with increasing aphid density. However, no significant difference was found on 9-year-old fruiting trees treated by different density of feeding aphid. The degree of sooty mold occurrence on leaves and fruits was positively correlated to the density of feeding aphids, but the degree of the mold occurrence became less intense as time passed. And only few fruits with severe mold injury showed the symptom at the time of harvest. Occurrence of Alternaria leaf spot caused by Alternaria mali had a tendency of increase according to the increase of aphid density. However, no significant difference was found between treatments. No difference was found between aphid densities and the chlorophyll content in the leaves as well as the mineral contents such as N, P, K, Ca, and Mg.
